Profile: Joe DiPietro is an American author, lyricist and playwright. This openly gay author is born in Teaneck, New Jersey. He is the son of Jean and Lou DiPietro and grew up in Oradell, near New Jersey. He went to Oradell Public School and River Dell Regional High School after which in 1984 graduating Phi Beta Kappa with a bachelor’s degree in English from Rutgers University. He is well known for Memphis, a Tony Award winning musical besides writing the lyrics and book for, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change’ a long-running off-Broadway show at the Westside Theatre.

Joe DiPietro’s writing style includes writing about romance, love, family which often has a light, comic touch tinged with a wrinkle or hints of sadness that avoids the happily-ever-after and easy conclusion.
