Profile: Sanjeev Sanyal is an author and an Indian economist. He was born in Kolkata and completed his education at St. James School, St. Xavier’s Collegiate School, Shri Ram College of Commerce and St. John’s College. His family has played a vital role in the Indian struggle for freedom against the colonial rule of the British.

Sanjeev Sanyal is considered to be one of the leading economists in Asia. He is presently the Principal Economic Adviser in the Ministry of Finance, Government of India. Till 2015, Sanjeev Sanyal has been the Managing Director and Global Strategist of Deutche Bank.

Besides co-chairing the Framework Working Group of the G20, Sanjeev Sanyal also represents India on various international forums. During the mid-nineties he worked in financial markets after which he joined the government.

Sanjeev Sanyal is popularly known for applying the Complex Adaptive Systems framework and chaos theory to urban and economic issues. He strongly advocates use of codified insolvency and bankruptcy processes to facilitate creative destruction in a economy that is evolving.
