Profile: Vikram Balagopal is an Indian award winning author. He is also a published poet, cartoonist and illustrator a number of magazines. He works on film projects constantly, as he is a well trained filmmaker.
After completing his training at the New York Film Academy, New York, he has worked with a number of film-makers in India. His screenplay was selected for Mira Nair’s Malisha Screenwriter’s Lab. Simian is the author’s award winning graphic novel. He resides in New Delhi.
Simian, his graphic novel is based on the Ramayan. The novel is an effort to dig deeper and understand more about war, which shapes and touches the world each and every single day. While Simian was published in 2014 in India by Harper Collins Publishers India, Savage Blue his second book, a fantasy novel was published in 2016 in India by HarperCollins Publishers India.
Savage Blue is an escapist fantasy adventure which addresses many issues in the world and yet is a fun book for readers to read. It explores issues related to the environment with feminism in an interesting way.
The relationship between the 2 main characters in Savage Blue are Shyam and Akila are what matters most to the author and that’s the reason he has kept them real in the novel. He feels that in people get trapped into something each day of their lives, be it social norms, debt, tradition or their own insecurities and it’s a universal desire in people to break free from them.
