Roshan Singh (January 22, 1892 – December 19, 1927) was born in Shahjahanpur. He was an Indian revolutionary. He was not only a good at wrestling but a sharp shooter as well. In the 1921 – 1922 Non Cooperation Movement, he was sentenced in the shooting case at Bareilly. In 1924, he joined the HRA –Hindustan Republican Association, after he was released from the Bareilly Central Jail. For a long time he was involved with the Shahjahanpur Arya Samaj. To oppose the government’s decision to shift him from Shahjahanpur district, he led a troop of aggressive soldiers to the Bareilly region.
The police fired at the procession and along with other protesters he was also arrested and given rigorous imprisonment for 2 years at the Bareilly’s Central Jail. His main aim was to avenge the rude behavior of the British towards him, while he was in jail. He sacrificed himself for the betterment of the common man but in return his family did not get rewarded in any way. The British Government arrested him and gave him death sentence, despite the fact that he had not participated in the Kakori conspiracy. Rajendra Lahiri, Ashfaqullah, Ramprasad and Roshan Singh were first tried in court and then given death sentence. They were put into Gorakhpur Jail and then hanged on December 19, 1927 in Allahabad.
